week 3 Thing 7

This summer, my book club began using the website Shelfari. We can post what books we are reading and make comments. I find it very helpful when I am in desperate need of a book to read. I know what my friends are reading and take their suggestions from Shelfari.

The kids could also use this site to discuss current books they are reading.

week 3 Thing 5 and 6

Flickr is fun! I could look at pictures all day. I looked at different locations that I have visited in the past year: New Orleans, Ireland. The photos are great. I wish my pictures looked like that. When looking for images at school we use POWER Library, AP Images. The students at an elementary level, usually find what they need thee.

I loved using the magazine photo and jigsaw puzzle. Now I plan to create my own Flickr account and try to upload some images to my blog.

I think the teachers would like to know about some of these ideas. I will have to talk to technology and make sure that these are not blocked at school. The computer teacher is always looking for new ideas that we can do collaboratively. The students could make a magazine cover about a current city or country they are studying.

Week 1 Thing 2

I am back-tracking. I am excited about this experience with web 2.0 but I have been traveling alot this summer and have not had enough time to try out all these new technologies.
The easiest for me is to accept responsibility for my own learning and take pride in it.
I find that as the years pass, I find my appetite for learning increasing. There is so much I want to learn about and what a great occupation to satisfy my cravings. Also as my 3 children become adults, their interests and travels lead me to new learning opportunities. After returning from trips to New Orleans and a Caribbean cruise, I have lots more topics I want to explore.
One thing I do find challenging is using technology to my advantage. In the elementary level we are limited as to what we can do in the school. Students are not allowed to search for images.
That is one thing we need to work on being able to access.

It was exciting to look at the other blogs. Exlibris was the mystery librarian.
What great pictures she has!

week 2/ thing 3

Setting up the blog was fun. I don't see how people have time to "blog", but I guess it would be a great place to keep track of personal thoughts. It is like the free version of "Blackboard" that is used in college classes. I also noticed when adding the avatar, that you can keep lists of books. That would be helpful.
The avatar idea is cute. I can see its appeal to kids. I do not find it necessary for us, but it was a learning experience.
